***We've made some changes to our registration system! Sign-ups no longer occur directly on the map--you will need to locate your desired "reach" (a grouping of sites) from the map and then use an external page to register for those reaches. Please read these step by step instructions!***

We will have a limited number of local sites reserved for day-of registrations.

How it works:

1. Pick your "reaches"

We've grouped 2-4 sites together into "reaches". Use this map to see where the reaches are generally located. Each Watershed (ex. Middle Provo River) is in a different color, and has numbered reaches. Make note of the Watershed and Number for your desired reach for registering on the Eventbrite page.

  • You may need to zoom in or out to see the reach number next to the point. You can also use the full screen button on the top right corner to open the map in Google Maps.

2. Reserve your reaches using our Eventbrite page

  • Click "sign up for a reach" at the bottom of this page to transfer to our Eventbrite event.

  • Click "Register", and use the drop down list to select the number of reaches in the region you would like to sample. EACH REACH or "TICKET" IS 1-4 SAMPING SITES

  • Click "Get (X) tickets", and on the next screen you can either accept the automatically assinged reach(es) or click "Edit Tickets" to change them

  • Click "Checkout" (you won't actually be charged or need to enter financial information, signing up is free).

3. We will email you the sites for the reach(es) you signed up for

Make sure you provide a valid email address when you check out with Eventbrite (we are the only ones who will receive this information), it will be used to send latitude, longitude, site description and access notes to you.

4. Come to the LSB on April 13th to get supplies and training

At 9 am we will have a short review about the project goals, show some of the results and then do a group training. If you come to pick up your kit after 9:30, we will provide an individual training. Make sure to dress appropriately for the weather, and for any environmental elements you may encounter in the field (e.g. mud, snowpack, sun)! You may want to bring a pen/pencil and sharpie, so that you can record field notes and label bottles.

5. Bring samples back to the LSB and enjoy a treat!

We will analyze the samples and post the data on our results page soon.

FAQs

  • How many sites should I sign up for? (Remember, each reach or "ticket" is 1-4 sites!)

Sample collection is quick (less than 5 minutes) so you can sign up for a few reaches, as much as your time allows you, but remember to include travel time.

  • What should I do if there is no water at a site?

Streams in Utah can be highly unpredictable! Some sites are canals that only flow during the growing season. Some only have water when snow is melting in May and June. If the stream is dry, and you can't find anywhere nearby that does have water, make a note on your datasheet and move to the next site.

  • What should I do if I can't access my site?

There should be access to all of our sites. The coordinates may not be exact, but use the name of the site and previous sampling notes to locate an appropriate place to sample. This might mean checking upstream or downstream, as long as you don't pass any tributaries or diversions.
